THE ADULT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA CHALLENGE

American Hispanic School has a realistic vision and a realistic mission: the challenge is to participate as a non-public Adult education provider in the solution of a big problem in our society: the lack of education among adult population.

In order to complement the public adult education system efforts, the non-public Adult Educators, have a huge opportunity and a challenge complement the Public Educations system to provide Secondary Education to about 5 million Adult Californians – 23% of California population age 25 and older - who lack the minimal necessary credential to achieve some degree of success in the labor market.

Education for adults who have not completed high school

American Hispanic School a , non-public educational, non-profit organization delivers  ADULT HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION (CIP 53.0105) to adults who studied some secondary but didn’t finish nor earn the High School Diploma.
Also, we serve private institutions, business, companies, and corporations by raising the educational standards of their workforce.

Business Reality

Last year, the private sector of the U.S. economy and government spent billions in training programs.

Unfortunately, many of these programs did not meet their expectations, mainly because the academic floor of the trainees was weak or inexistent.

The growing domestic and foreign markets, as well as the advances in research and technology, are forcing firms to hire more people in order to be able to reach the new consumers; however, even though the supply of labor is sufficient, firms can’t find enough applicants with the academic background needed to become the highly productive worker that companies request to face the new global world.

The Challenge

The American Hispanic School is aware of these and many other problems that firms and corporations are facing; that is why we offer a solution that clearly benefits the employer, but that also gives the employee a new perspective for future development in the company, saving to the firm future hiring and personnel rotating costs.

Benefits

Adult students develop a higher confidence themselves, resulting as an improvement in their productivity, leadership and social skills.
By having a wider vision, the adult is able to perform several tasks with better efficiency.
Investing in the workforce’s literacy education is not an expenditure, is an investment that maximize the output capacity of business.

Increasing need for adult education

◊  As other countries show consistent progress in enhancing the education levels of their adult population, the U.S. has been stuck at essentially the same level for 30 years.

◊  Unless the U.S. finds ways to improve its performance in this arena, it will fall farther behind a longer list of competitor countries

Further, the lower the levels of education attainment, the less likely that an individual will be participating in the workforce.
◊  Nationally, only 56.8% of adults with less than a high school education are gainfully employed.

It is evident that individuals with less education have jobs that pay lower wages.
◊  More important, it is also true that a great many have no job at all.

The challenge is clear

◊  California must successfully reengage adults who have too little education (knowledge and skills) to hold living wage jobs.
◊  Failure puts the State and Nation at evident competitive risk.
◊  Rising to the challenge will require developing new strategies and new tools.

If not now: WHEN ?
If not us: WHO ?
